“Romancing the Stone” is informed by 19th Century Romantic poetry and pays tribute to the era’s new science: Geology. Here, photographed rocks are illuminated in found frames and paired with poems by Blake, Byron, Keats, and Wordsworth. The poems are imbued with a sense of Awe regarding man’s place in Nature. It is a feeling missing in contemporary culture, and by juxtaposing new technology (digital photos, led lights) with classic works, ancient rocks and found materials, the pieces serve as visual reminders of this lost connection.
